Advantages of the sling

Goes on and off in seconds

One of the beauties of the sling is how easy it is to put on and take off. Perhaps you need to get on with some housework or jump out of the car to pop into a post office or use a bank machine - you can slip on the sling in a second, pop the baby in and go. Babies often fall asleep in the sling. They feel so safe, warm and comfortable next to your body and the movement lulls them to sleep. If you want to put them down on a bed or cot, bend over carefully until the baby is lying down on the bed, slide yourself out of the sling, undo it if you like, and leave your baby lying on the bed fast asleep. Can be used from newborn up to 15kg (32lb) toddlers

The sling can be used from birth up until toddlerhood, making it great value for money. Cradling a new baby feels natural to most mothers. In fact osteopaths and Alexander technique teachers agree that expecting a newborn baby to sit upright, as they have to front carriers, is not ideal for the undeveloped spines of newborn babies. When the baby is around six months old and starting to sit up, mothers naturally begin to carry them on their hip. With the Better Baby Sling, you can carry them on your hip in the sling, leaving your hands free. (By this stage, most of the more expensive front carriers have been discarded.) With five carrying positions to experiment with (see Using the Sling) The Better Baby Sling enables you to carry your baby in the position that feels most natural to you and your baby. No lower back strain

A lot of customers ring us when their babies are around four months old, because the front carrier they are using is causing them back strain as their baby gets heavier. The Better Baby Sling is ideal for them as it distributes the baby's weight evenly between the wearer's shoulder and hip. A well padded shoulder cushion ensures that shoulder ache is avoided. Sue Budden, the new owner of the Better Baby Sling business said, "I myself suffer from a low back problem and I found I couldn't use a front carrier without it causing me bad back pain. The Better Baby Sling was brilliant, as it never aggravated the problem, even when I carried my two year old daughter in it!" (Return to the top of page)

Breastfeeding discretely

The sling can be used to breastfeed discretely. This can be useful for settling a colicky baby or out and about in public places. "I know of one woman who breastfed her baby in the sling in the queue at the supermarket! And another who breastfed while walking around the National Gallery!" says Sue Budden, owner of the sling business. "And I'll never forget the first time I went to the park when my baby was about two weeks old. I sat on a park bench and breastfed in the sling - I would have felt quite vulnerable without it." Machine washable

The sling is made from 100% cotton and is machine washable (30º).(Return to the top of page)
