Wearing Twins
Twins can be worn in three different carrying positions,
depending on the age and weight of the babies. Ideally parents of twins
should purchase two slings so that each parent can wear a baby.
- Newborn babies can be carried facing
each other in a cradle carry position.
Put the larger twin in first in the cradle carry position with their
head facing the rings. Slip the other baby in on the opposite side
of the sling, away from the rings. Adjust the sling.
- Slightly older babies can be
carried in the tummy to tummy position,
touching each other. Put one baby in first then slide the
other one in next to them. Adjust the sling so that the lower
padded area fits tightly under their bottoms and the upper
padding comes over their necks. This is a very natural position
for twins, as it recreates the closeness they experienced
in the womb.
- Fathers (and
strong mums) may prefer to wear two slings,
carrying each baby in the hip
carry position. Put one sling on
first and put one twin in the hip carry position.
Then put on the other sling on the opposite
shoulder and fit the other twin on the opposite
hip.
- The sling can
also be used to hold one twin, while carrying
the other in your arms.
